Knoxville, Tennessee – On Saturday, August 21, 2021, Humphreys County, Tennessee experienced catastrophic flooding as a result of a large storm system moving through the area. It is estimated that approximately 17 inches, or 43 centimeters, fell within 24 hours, and the resulting record-breaking floodwaters have left approximately 20 people dead and at least 40 more are still unaccounted for. Hundreds of homes and businesses have been destroyed, and thousands are without power or access to basic necessities such as food, clean water, or clothing. Agencies all across the state are converging on Humphreys County to assist with disaster relief, rescue efforts, and recovery.
In support of these efforts, Apex Bank has opened our Waverly Community Center to serve as a relief center and we are actively serving meals to those impacted. We are also a designated distribution center and are currently accepting donations of clothing, supplies, and non-perishable foods, which will be distributed to those in need. Donations can be brought to the center at 204 West Main Street, Waverly, TN 37185. We have also established an account to collect and distribute monetary donations to the relief effort. To contribute, please visit any Apex Bank location and mention “Humphreys County Flood Relief” and online at www.ApexBank.com.
“Just as words cannot describe the devastation that this community has suffered, there are also no words to describe the outpouring of support from people far and near. Our community has been joined with communities from all across the great Volunteer State to lock arms and pull through this tragedy together,” said Marcus Vine, Community Banking President. “Our Apex team has been joined by many community volunteers to keep our center running, distributing supplies, and feeding people. They are doing an amazing job in anticipating and meeting needs as we continue to move through the different stages of this disaster. All monetary donations are much appreciated and will go directly to those impacted.”
Additionally, Apex Bank will donate $2,500.00 towards the funeral expenses of each individual who lost their lives in this tragic event. We will provide these funds directly to the respective funeral home designated for each victim. These funds will come from Apex Bank directly and will not utilize relief fund donations.
